Custom systems for research, academic, and clinical environments.
Based in the Research Triangle, we build workstations and compute systems for university departments, research labs, and healthcare-adjacent teams. On-site service for institutions across the Raleigh-Durham area. Every system is specced to your workload, purchased through our business accounts with full warranty registration, and delivered with complete documentation.
Volume manufacturers optimize for margin. We optimize for your workload.
Off-the-shelf workstations are built to hit a price point. They use proprietary power supplies, locked BIOSes, and components selected for cost rather than performance. When your research depends on sustained compute, validated memory, or specific GPU configurations, a custom system built for your exact use case outperforms catalog hardware at comparable or lower cost.
Built for your actual use case
We don't configure from a menu. We spec every component for your specific workload, whether that's genomic analysis, fluid dynamics simulation, machine learning training, or GxP-validated compute.
Parts at cost, transparent service fee
You see every component and what it costs. No bundled markup, no proprietary parts that lock you into a vendor's upgrade path. Procurement teams can verify every line item.
No proprietary hardware
Every part is off-the-shelf and replaceable. Standard ATX power supplies, standard memory, standard storage. Your IT department can service these systems without calling us, though we are always available.
Direct manufacturer service
Components are purchased through our business accounts and warranties are registered to JET.TECH Computing. If something fails, we handle the manufacturer directly. You never file an RMA.
Validated builds others won't offer
We test and validate configurations that volume builders don't catalog, like dual RTX 5090 systems engineered to run on a standard 120V circuit. If the workload demands it and we can validate it, we build it.
Hardware-level security for sensitive environments.
Our systems are built to support your compliance requirements, whether your institution operates under HIPAA, handles CUI, or simply requires strong data protection practices. We configure security features at the hardware and firmware level before the system ships.
TPM 2.0 + Full Disk Encryption
Every system includes TPM 2.0 for hardware-backed encryption. BitLocker (Windows) or LUKS (Linux) configured and verified before delivery.
Secure Boot + BIOS Passwords
UEFI Secure Boot enabled and validated. BIOS-level administrative and boot passwords set per your security policy. Boot order locked to prevent unauthorized media.
Intel Networking Hardware
We select motherboards with Intel LAN and upgrade to Intel WiFi/Bluetooth where needed. Intel networking has consistently better driver stability and enterprise management support than Realtek or Mediatek alternatives.
Complete Build Documentation
Every system ships with a full component manifest, serial numbers, test results, and firmware versions. Your IT and compliance teams get the documentation they need for asset management and audit trails.
Built to support your HIPAA compliance.
HIPAA compliance is the responsibility of the covered entity, not the hardware vendor. But the hardware either supports your compliance requirements or it doesn't. Our systems are configured to meet the technical safeguard requirements outlined in the HIPAA Security Rule before they leave our workshop.
- ▸Access Control (§164.312(a)): BIOS-level passwords, OS-level authentication configured, boot order locked to prevent unauthorized access via removable media.
- ▸Encryption (§164.312(a)(2)(iv)): TPM 2.0 hardware module, full-disk encryption (BitLocker or LUKS) enabled and tested, encryption keys hardware-backed.
- ▸Audit Controls (§164.312(b)): Windows Event Logging or Linux auditd configured, system event monitoring enabled, complete build manifest with serial numbers for asset tracking.
- ▸Integrity Controls (§164.312(c)): UEFI Secure Boot validates OS and driver integrity at every startup, preventing unauthorized firmware or bootloader modifications.
- ▸Transmission Security (§164.312(e)): Intel networking hardware with enterprise driver support, WPA3/WiFi 7 capable, hardware ready for VPN and network segmentation.
Procurement-friendly from quote to delivery.
We understand institutional purchasing. Our process is designed to work within your procurement workflow, not around it.
- ▸W-9 on file and available immediately upon request.
- ▸General liability insurance with certificate of insurance available for vendor registration.
- ▸Accepts purchase orders and P-cards. Full payment upfront locks in component pricing and begins the build process. Institutional orders include cross-ship warranty service, HIPAA-compliant drive destruction, and extended documentation.
- ▸Detailed, line-item quotes showing every component at cost plus a clearly defined service fee. No hidden markups. Procurement can verify pricing independently.
- ▸Vendor registration completed promptly for any institutional portal (PaymentWorks, iSupplier, or equivalent).
- ▸NC S-Corp, registered and insured. NC Tax Account on file. Tax-exempt institutional purchases handled properly.
- ▸Asset tagging and inventory registration. We apply your property tags and pre-register systems in your inventory management system before delivery.
- ▸Institutional references available upon request.
Quotes within 48 hours
From initial conversation to a detailed, line-item quote with full component specs. Revisions turned around same day.
3-4 weeks from payment
Component delivery, assembly, full testing suite, documentation, and delivery. Updates and photos throughout.
Next business day target
For Research Triangle institutions, we target next business day on-site service for common component failures. If a specific part requires additional procurement time, we communicate the timeline upfront so your team can plan accordingly.
Based in Cary, NC
Local to Duke, UNC, NC State, and the entire Research Triangle. On-site delivery and support without shipping delays or dispatch queues.
Standard Institutional
Higher than our consumer build fee to cover the additional configuration work: TPM enabled, BitLocker/encryption, CrowdStrike or endpoint protection ready, Windows Enterprise support, deployment of your organization's OS image, and institutional documentation.
Managed Institutional
Everything in Standard Institutional, plus cross-ship warranty, HIPAA-compliant drive destruction, full audit trail documentation, and ongoing procurement support. Quoted per build based on configuration and service requirements.
Cross-ship warranty: When a component fails, the replacement ships to you before the failed part ships back to us. For institutions in the Raleigh-Durham area, we deliver and install the replacement on-site. One point of contact from diagnosis to resolution. No ticket queues, no escalation chains, no third-party technicians. We handle all manufacturer warranty claims directly.
Both tiers allow your IT department to perform repairs, upgrades, or swap components between JET.TECH builds without voiding the warranty on the component or the system. We just ask that changes are documented and reported back so we can keep our records current for warranty and support purposes.
Research labs, academic departments, clinical support teams.
